Quality begins with a documented identity and a representative sample. A GC/MS report is useful, but it is not an all-purpose certificate of excellence.
Read the analytical context
Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry separates and helps identify compounds in a sample. Ask for the tested batch, laboratory, date, method and interpretation. A chromatogram without a clear link to the delivered material has limited value to a buyer. [1]
Do not confuse different questions
Composition, origin, organic status, contaminant control and cosmetic performance are different questions. A compositional profile alone does not prove all of them. Avoid ranking oils by a single constituent or a marketing phrase such as therapeutic grade.
Build a purchasing file
Our suggested file combines supplier identity, traceability, specification, batch analysis, safety information, storage guidance and a sample. For hydrosols and finished cosmetics, request documentation appropriate to those formats rather than demanding only an essential-oil chromatogram. Have a qualified formulator or laboratory interpret technical requirements.
